A man for the season.

For me it was a sad but proud moment when Mitt Romney announced that he is suspending his presidential campaign.

Sad because I continue to believe that Romney is far and away the best qualified candidate for the nomination and the presidency. John McCain is where he is primarily because he was the media's darling and the conservative vote was split between Romney and Mike Huckabee.

And proud because Romney's expressed motive for dropping out is to unite the party  in a time of war.

When a spokesperson announced soon after Romney's speech at CPAC that Huckabee is going to prolong the GOP split, I felt anger!

Huckabee's support was only in the states where there is a strong evangelical presence. And those states are already counted. Huckabee even lost to Ron Paul in five states; he has no chance of getting the nomination.

So why not wrap it up now and get down to the serious business of rallying Republicans against the Democrats who would raise taxes and leave our country unsafe from the terrrorists?

Maybe it's not over for Romney yet. Providence has a way of finding the right person for the season. Conservatives need a champion. I believe we were offered one.

We'll see what happens...
